Lanyards for ID cards are made of different types of fabric, which can affect the item’s overall look, texture, comfort, and durability.
Let’s explore the commonly used fabric options and see the best use of each.
1. Nylon
Nylon is the go-to fabric option when it comes to lanyards. They are durable yet very economical. It is also quite smooth and comfortable to wear all day long.
If you are looking for the shiniest yet cheapest material, this is highly advisable. It has this nice gloss. So if you have intricate details on the logos, nylon will make them stand out.
2. Polyester
Like nylon, polyester is also another popular choice and a cheap one. Polyester is very tough and durable. You may be able to wear polyester lanyards for a long time without washing them, and they will stay looking good as new.
It is very resistant to heat, wear and tear. That’s why it can also be a good choice for outdoor events where you are exposed to the elements. It is less likely to fade but is not that amenable to dyeing. And if you’re looking for some sheen, this only has a semi-shiny finish.
3. Cord
This is the newest fabric option and has this unique round tubular look. It is quite comfortable to wear, and it can clearly show off the words and details on the lanyard, even from afar.
4. Cotton
Cotton is the most eco-friendly choice. It is also smooth and very comfortable to wear. The downside is that it might require regular cleaning as it can attract dirt and dust.
But when it comes to durability, you can never go wrong with cotton lanyards. But it might not be that resistant to extreme heat or when drenched in rainwater. Thus, it is best used for indoor events.
5. Satin
Satin is durable and will not color bleed. It also has a nice sheen and shiny look. So it’s a great way of showing off logos or printed words while having a lustrous background.
This is very popularly used in medals in awards presentations. But it can also be a unique material for your lanyards.
6. Rubber vinyl PVC
PVC is very flexible, durable, and can withstand wear and tear. This is also a popular choice for lanyards in hospitals and corporate use. It is also easy to clean. All you need is to spray it with disinfectant and wipe it.
