The ID product is a vital part of any event because they’re used as tickets, passes and credentials. As a business owner, you want to make sure that the IDs you order are printed correctly and at the right quality, so that your guests all have an enjoyable experience.
We hope this article will help alleviate some of the common printing mistakes and pitfalls that many event professionals face.
1. Check for any typos or grammatical errors in your text before submitting your order
Typos are embarrassing for both you and your guest. Typos can also be a huge time-saver for your attendees. People will jump to the next line when reading if all of the text is good, even if a sentence is repeated over and over again in different areas of the ID.
2. Make sure you have your logo and photo size correct
The quality of an event ID can be affected by using your own photos/logos, so make sure you have adequate rights to use them. Consider getting professional prints of your logo or having a friend or associate who has rights to use your brand to get professional prints made.
3. Use the right kind of printer
A customer-supplied printer is going to be much cheaper than the services offered by a printing service, but you risk receiving quality materials because you don’t have the right equipment. Try to get samples from your local copy center before ordering IDs so that you can see how they turn out before committing to a large order.
4. Add bleed to the design
When you submit your order, there will be an area to add “Bleed” to the design. This is essential for printing because it means that if you were to cut out the ID in a straight line, there would be no white edges. To get around this restriction, you can use a knife and cut around the ID (very carefully!) or use a vinyl cutter to make perfectly-cut IDs at your event.
5. Get rush IDs delivered on time
The sooner you submit your order, the faster the delivery will be. If you want rush orders to be delivered, most services provide a five-day production window for print orders. However, if you want something extra, consider getting the rush cards printed with all four corners cut off, which saves precious time and money!
6. Prepare files necessary for the print
Before submitting your order, make sure that you have all the files necessary for the print. If you are handing over the files yourself, make sure that they are in high quality and not overly large. For example, if your logo is 100kb or larger, it will take a lot longer (and cost more) to print than a logo that is 10kb.
7. Take advantage of different calling cards designs
People get tired of seeing the same old designs at events every year. This can be easily solved by ordering ID cards in different designs. You can also make a custom design that is not available in any stores and use it to promote your brand. This will attract new event goers and help you stand out from the crowd.
