The card looks like an ordinary 30-mil PVC card. The difference is there is a metallic antenna coil embedded in the card that stores the encoded data.

Inserting the card on the access reader, the numbers on the card are passed to the control panel of the access reader. Once the number matches the approved internal database number, it will unlock the door.

Learning and remembering codes can be troublesome, significantly when changing passwords. Using proximity cards will spare you from remembering security keycodes. It is because proximity cards use a token-based system.
3. No learning requirements
If you will use proximity cards you need not be technology-savvy. Just hold the card within the radius required to gain access.
4. Low maintenance
Proximity cards involve no moving parts, so they don’t need thorough maintenance. There’s a lower chance to wear and tear because it does not have physical contact with the access reader.
Despite the advantages of using proximity cards, there are some drawbacks compared to RFID and smart cards. With memory capacity, proximity cards have lower memory capacity. Obviously, the card can do more if more data is stored in the chip.
Another thing is the functionality of proximity cards is limited. It is commonly used as access control because the chip can only hold a card number and facility code. Proximity cards are not totally secured as these are prone to card cloning.
